Pupils’ entitlement

Over the time that you are at Trinity, you, with your parent/ carer support, will be making a number of decisions relating to your future. We know how important and life changing these decisions can be, and this drives us to ensure that everyone receives the best possible careers education.

During your time at school, you will be involved in activities and opportunities to develop your skills and understanding of the world of work. This enables you to make informed choices for your future in line with your strengths and areas of interest.

As a school, we have a statutory duty to provide access, for all young people in years 7 – 13, to impartial, independent information, advice and guidance on careers.

We are very pleased that we have our own dedicated Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) Adviser, Kieron Ezard, who is available to assist you with any aspect of careers advice you require and to guide you along your individual career path.

Where the interview will take place?

Your interview will take place in the Careers office with Luke Myers.

What will be discussed?

In your careers interview, there is no right or wrong answer. It is an open discussion about you and your interests.
During your guidance interview Luke Myers will help you to:

• identify your personal qualities and skills
• identify the skills you would like to develop
• come up with ideas for study and work
• explore specific career areas open to you
• explore current and future job opportunities
• understand the process of job search, writing a CV and going for interviews
• explore your interests, likes and dislikes, family influences, personal barriers and work experience
• think about how study, work experience, and home-life can all contribute to your employability

Luke Myers will give you:

• accurate and up-to-date information
• the opportunity, if suitable, to complete a personality-based assessment which helps individuals to know themselves better
• alternative sources of information and help if required
• an action plan to help you move forward

How to prepare for your interview:

Think about:
• your current situation – what planning you have already done, if any
• what you would like to change
• qualifications or additional qualifications and experience required for the career you are interested in
• how much control you feel you have in making choices
• the ideas you already have but don’t know how to move forward with or perhaps you have no ideas at all

The benefits of a guidance interview are:

• increased motivation and self- confidence
• greater self-awareness
• identification of more achievable ambitions
• improved decision making skills
• increased awareness of opportunities

Local Labour Market Information
The school uses Labour Market Information to inform its curriculum planning to meet the needs of local employers and prepare our pupils for the job opportunities of the future.

We know that a big part of the decision-making process when choosing a course will be considering the job opportunities that are available locally and further afield. We encourage all of our pupils to find out more about the Local Labour Market information on the NPCAT FUTUREPROOF careers website.

Skillsometer can help you discover what jobs you might like to do in the future. You will be presented with a series of statements. Select the emoji that shows how you feel about each statement. You will be given suggestions of jobs linked to what you most enjoy doing.

Supporting young people in a digital world!

Social media is a big part of young people’s lives, but some of the features designed to keep us connected can also create challenges around privacy, wellbeing and screen time.

Over the coming posts, we’ll be sharing some simple, practical steps parents and carers can take to help children enjoy social media more safely and positively.

We’ll look at private messages and group chats, location sharing, algorithms, likes and follower counts, notifications, endless scrolling, disappearing content and live streaming — with straightforward settings to check and useful questions to start conversations at home.

The aim isn’t to know everything about every app. It’s about keeping conversations open, understanding the features young people are using and helping them make safer choices online.

Looksmaxxing is an online trend focused on improving physical appearance, particularly among boys and young men.

While some content centres on grooming, skincare, diet and exercise, other parts of the trend can promote questionable advice, extreme practices and unrealistic expectations.

Our latest #WakeUpWednesday guide explores key concerns, including:
• Pressure around male appearance and body image
• Misleading or potentially dangerous advice
• Obsessive behaviours and declining self-worth
• Mental health concerns
• Exposure to increasingly extreme online communities

It also shares practical advice for parents and educators on recognising looksmaxxing terminology, noticing changes in behaviour and starting supportive conversations about appearance, influencers and online expectations.

Read the guide here: vist.ly/5ke3u

Our latest #WakeUpWednesday guide supports parents, carers and educators in understanding the trend and recognising when appearance-focused content may be becoming harmful.

The guide explores:
• The targeting of male insecurities and body image concerns
• Misleading advice and extreme appearance-focused practices
• Links to obsessive behaviours and mental health difficulties
• How increasingly extreme online communities can influence young people
• Warning signs, terminology and changes in behaviour to look out for

With clear, practical advice, the resource helps adults open supportive conversations about appearance, influencers and unrealistic expectations.
