A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all students to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for students to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

Students are assessed according to the level descriptors for each activity. These focus on different aspects of the topics such as physical performance, teamwork; individual performance; analysis; sportsmanship.




Extra Curricular

The PE Department offer a large range of extra curricular clubs throughout the school year. These mainly relate to which activities are taking place in PE lessons at the time.

The school also have a number of competitive teams that play in local, regional and national competitions.

The BTEC Award in Sport is a qualification where students develop their knowledge and understanding of Sport through Practical and Theory lessons.

The course is 75% coursework and 25% onscreen exam. The coursework is marked by the teacher and can be awarded a PASS, MERIT or DISTINCTION grade. Students work will be assessed and monitored regularly through lessons and at the end of each assignment deadline.



Homework is assigned regularly according to choice of unit. Fitness for Sport and Exercise is an exam unit and homework will be revision and exam material.





There are a number of sports clubs that students can attend to help develop their knowledge and understanding of the different sport elements involved in the course. Revision classes will be after school on Thursday to help catch up with coursework and revision for exams.





At Key Stage 5 we run BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness). This double A level course is very popular, allowing students to develop their practical and theoretical understanding of Sport. A considerable amount of the course is spent on developing leadership skills.

In addition we also run  BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Sport.  This course covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in appropriate vocational
sectors and It is broadly equivalent to one GCE A Level.

Trinity is renowned for its WIDE extra-curricular programme and see this as an imperative role for the overall development of the students at the school.
The extra-curricular programme provides the opportunity to:

  • Extend the students’ knowledge and understanding in a variety of activities
  • Raise the standards of Physical Education and sport for all our students
  • Work towards a particular goal such as a games match or a presentation of a drama, music or dance performance or gymnastics display
  • Develop the enjoyment of sport and physical activity at our school
  • Promote lifelong physical activity in the youth of tomorrow
  • Establish contacts and shared interests with other schools and clubs within the local community.


3EnrichmentOpportunities for extracurricular exist in a wide range of sports and activities, including leadership and officiating, in addition to participation.

Links are developed with many clubs including Acklam RFU, Tennis World, Middlesbrough Lions Basketball Club and Ormesby Table Tennis Clubs.

Trips are organised for Skiing every two years and other trips such as the trip to the London Olympic village in 2011 are also held.
