At Trinity Catholic College we have a rich and diverse curriculum, designed to offer you the very best in A-Level, Applied A-Level and Btec courses. You will receive expert guidance from our highly trained staff when you come to select your options. This guidance is supplemented throughout the year by our Choices Masterclass and 1-2-1 events, as well as in appointments with our expert Careers Team. We are here to help you navigate through over 20 Sixth Form courses and with Trinity Sixth Form boasting the best value added scores in Middlesbrough, we know you will be successful whichever you choose.
Purple pathway
Our Purple Pathway is made up entirely of A-Level subjects. We recommend that you achieve an Average Point Score (APS) of 6 or above to access these courses. A-Levels are traditionally seen as academic pathways for high achieving students and many Universities look favourably on good results in these subjects. Assessment is largely exam based at the end of Year 13 with some subjects including coursework elements.
The courses available to study in the Purple Pathway are:
Biology Business Chemistry English Language English Literature Film Studies Fine Art French Geography History Law Mathematics Physics Psychology Religious Studies Sociology
Green Pathway
Our ‘Mix-It-Up’ Green Pathway allows students to choose from both the A-Level and Btec pool of qualifications. It allows students to expertly tailor their programme of study to suit their preferred way of learning or to facilitate specific course combinations for future careers.
Blue Pathway
Our Blue Pathway is our Applied courses, specifically Btecs and Applied Criminology, all of which are strongly featured in our T6 programmes of study. These courses often provide a more practical approach to learning, basing topics and experiences in the real world and offering specialist knowledge to a range of subjects. We recommend an APS score of 4 or more as a minimum. Universities and the world of work hold these qualifications in high regard.
The courses available to study in the Blue Pathway are:
Level 3 BTEC/Applied Subjects
BTEC Engineering
BTEC Health & Social Care
BTEC Sport
WJEC Applied Criminology
Mathematics and English GCSE Resits
Any students without GCSE English and/or Maths at grade 4 or above must undertake their resit in Year 1 of sixth form as part of their programme of study. Please let your interviewer know if you think this may be something you require when you apply.
Work Experience
All Year 12 students will be provided with a work based placement as part of their study programme at Trinity Sixth Form. The format for some students such as our engineers will be a physical placement, whereas others may take part in a virtual work placement where required. The timetable for the Work Experience element can be found in the Sixth Form Careers Plan. Further work based experience can also be offered as part of our Enrichment programme where students have assisted in Primary and Secondary School settings, volunteered in hospitals or received on the job experience in appropriate local businesses.
Other Study Programmes
All students are required to attend PSHE+ and Enrichment sessions as part of their non-qualification programme. As a catholic school we also require students to attend one hour of General RE a week.
